I'm engaging with you as a human being
Coming to a cinema near you in October.
He’s back. Nathan Fielder is a genius. An avant-garde artist who makes the weirdest, funniest stuff I’ve seen, managing to be conceptually thrilling in its unpredictability. Nathan For You is a longtime fave, and The Rehearsal bent my mind into loops. The logline of his newest project You Can See Everything is unsurprisingly compelling:
Thirty-four days before she’s sent to prison, notorious Silicon Valley founder Elizabeth Holmes invites a skeptical film crew to document her every move. What begins as an intimate portrait of an enigmatic felon becomes a mind-bending three-year journey into the abyss.
Nathan moving from reality TV, to prestige reality TV, to cinematic documentary makes so much sense. The trailer is just a brief, haunting, exchange between Nathan and Elizabeth.
My favourite comment was:
It debuted last weekend at the Telluride Film Festival as a surprise film, where Nathan joked “For those of you who don’t know who we are and are disappointed, I apologize, but hopefully by the end of the film, you’ll be slightly less disappointed.”
Reading about it this morning, I was immediately interested in this line:
Fielder finds himself drawn from behind the camera into the story, struggling to determine whether Holmes and Evans are being candid with him or manipulating him.
I had no idea what to expect after season 1 of The Rehearsal, and season 2 blew me away. I can’t wait to see this.
