Just played Detroit: Become Human

Finally rolled credits on a game I've been eyeing up for 8 years.

Finished this one today.

It was actually great. DavidCage / Quantic Dream games are ludically unambitious sometimes but I liked the simulation gimmick, nice way to cue up cool action sequences as (simple) puzzles, the QTEs kept me in the action, and the production design, lighting and performances were genuinely brilliant.

Feels odd right now to feel for clankers, but it’s a dead earnest take at quite an old-fashioned (complimentary) sci-fi idea, that I think endures beyond the cynicism of the moment.

The kid, I will say, is not great. I dunno, maybe the mocap dots didn’t fit right and the performance didn’t translate, but that performance was a rare dud.

I also don’t know if I can even spoil it since the endings feel quite wide open and I know that the main characters can die at certain points in the story.

I ended up with quite a sad ending, but not absolutely bleak, there were some rays of hope in there. TEMPTED to replay, but not gonna. Not yet.
