The Last Starship hits v1.0!

The super fun spaceship sim game The Last Starship has exited early access after three years! I’ve been playing this game intermittently since one of its first versions and it’s a delight. Introversion Games also made Prison Architect, a real gem of a game marred only (in my opinion) by very grim subject matter, but when it came out it was the first time someone had made the Dwarf Fortress-style colony sim really sing in a more accessible way.

The Last Starship asks, “what if Prison Architect, but more like Star Trek?”. So no shivs, riots, contraband, solitary confinement or capital punishment, just the tools to build finely-made swiss clocks, little ticking machines where you can tune and tune your ship for a specific function.

I haven’t picked up 1.0 yet, but it looks like they’ve made some improvements to the fleet mode (“What if you had multiple ships, and they could support and supplement one another?”), and whenever I picked up substantial updates in the past, there’d be little enhancements and treats here and there.

I’m travelling for work at the moment, but when I’m back at a proper keyboard and mouse setup at home, I must give this a whirl.
