Review – Thomas Was Alone
A puzzle-platformer originally released for PC and Mac in 2012, Thomas Was Alone has been gradually expanding onto more platforms, finally landing on iPad this month. After just a few minutes of play, it’s easy to see why this game is still finding new audiences.
The first level begins with the eponymous Thomas, a rogue AI who experiences his first self-aware thought and then explores the space around him, hopping from platform to platform. As he progresses, he’s joined by other shapes who each have their own perks and abilities.
The mechanics start out quite simple, escalating in complexity at a perfect pace and in concert with the story, an intermittent witty narration that punctuates the action with flashes of character and tension, always cut with exceptional humour.
