Luton Game Jam – Getting There

Luton Game Jam – Getting There

6:30 a.m. Dublin

Nice way to start a 48-hour game jam, right? With a super early start? RIGHT?

7:30 a.m. Dublin Airport

Not a soul stirring. It's really kind of beautiful in its own way. As beautiful as anything with a McDonalds in it can be, at least.

9:45 LUTON!

That's right, I'm in Luton. Deal with it.
The first thing I had to do was...wait around for five and a half hours because that's how the flights worked out. I met another Irish person who flew over for the event as well and we waited it out together, trying to conserve our energy for the trials ahead.
Eventually the moment arrived for us to sign up and we dozily nursed pints as the bar filled up with energised nerds. I managed to track down my team and we chit-chatted until our lecture welcoming us to the jam. The only space for surprise was with the theme; there'd been a vote and it was a dead heat between a predefined theme and no theme, so there was a draw out of a hat and the final decision was...no theme! We all got to decide our own theme. I had mixed feelings about this since it was going to be extra time and energy out of our already hectic schedule, but as it turned out, I was quite happy with what we came up with.
To be continued...
P.S. If you're not bothered waiting to see what comes next, head on over to see the finished game presented to the judges.
